Exodus

Birds know.

I watch from my own perch behind window's sash

as they feed steadily

in preparation for the coming snow.

They feed, I watch, and morning's peace is sweet.

Suddenly there is a quick flurry, an exodus that erases the scene.

Not one Little One is left behind,

and my senses are alerted to movement in the underbrush.

He has flown in silent,

still and waiting.

He hunts alone

with patience and cunning.

The bird books say he frequents feeders for easy prey.

Moments pass like hours until another Little One,

unawares,

flies into what has been a safe haven and familiar surroundings,

until this day.

I have seen a reminder.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking shom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowin that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
